Meloxicam

Other Names:
Metacam, Movalis, Melox, Mobic, Recoxa, Tenaron
Use:
Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) drug used in horses in Europe to relieve colic and musculoskeletal pain. It is available as a 15 mg/ml tablet administered orally or as a 20 mg/ml injectable.

Typical Dosage: The usual recommended dosage is 0.6 mg/kg every 24 hours for a maximum of 14 days for an average adult horse.

How Meloxicam Works

Meloxicam acts by blocking an enzyme called cyclooxygenase which is involved in the production of prostaglandins. As the prostaglandins trigger inflammation, pain, exudation and fever, meloxicam reduces these clinical signs.
