Other Names:
Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) drug used in horses to relieve colic and musculoskeletal pain. It is available as a 15 mg/ml tablet administered orally or as a 20 mg/ml injectable. The usual recommended dosage is 0.6 mg/kg for an average adult horse.

Meloxicam acts by blocking an enzyme called cyclooxygenase which is involved in the production of prostaglandins. As the prostaglandins trigger inflammation, pain, exudation and fever, meloxicam reduces these clinical signs.
