Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) virus is a type of alphavirus of the family Togaviridae. It is a single-stranded, enveloped, linear, positive-sense ribonucleic acid (RNA) virus that affects horses and humans living in the Western Hemisphere. It is most closely related to western equine encephalitis (WEE) virus and venezuelan equine encephalitis (VEE) virus. Birds and rodents are the natural reservoirs of the virus and mosquitoes serve as vectors.
Disinfection
EEE virus can be inactivated using common disinfectants such as peroxygen-based disinfectants, 2% glutaraldehyde.
