Trichophyton verrucosum is a type of fungi known as dermatophyte, which have the ability to utilise keratin as a nutrient source, i.e. they have a unique enzymatic capacity [keratinase]. It is responsible for causing dermatophytosis (ringworm) in mainly cattle, but has also been known to infect horses and other animals. It is most often found on the horse's rump or limbs.

T. verrucosum is distributed worldwide.
