Trypanosoma equiperdum is a spindle-shaped protozoal parasite that is known for causing trypanosomal disease in horses, specifically manifesting as the equine disease known as Dourine. Horses, donkeys, and other equids are considered the only natural host for T. equiperdum. Donkeys are suspected of acting as reservoirs for infection in horses. Dourine is a problem for horses living in Europe, South America and Africa.
