Fourways Equine Clinic


Fourways Equine Clinic is the largest equine clinic in South Africa, and is located in the heart of horse country in Kyalami, Johannesburg in South Africa. The clinic was started in 1974 by Dr. George Frost and Dr. Crocky du Preez, which has grown over the years to a team of seven veterinary experts---Dr. Terry Casey and Dr. Aidan Glynn are the managing partners and are supported by Dr. Willemien Moraal, Dr. Jeanne De Villiers, Dr. Summer Maitland-Stuart, Dr. Adrienne Viljoen and Dr. Martin Schulman. They have received recognition for being a well-renowned and respected equine veterinary practice. The clinic is part of the Equine Care Hospital (Equicare) in Midrand, through which it offers 24/7 emergency treatment for horses. The facility has its own dedicated in-house laboratory and a CT Scanner.
Adrienne Viljoen , DVM
Dr. Adrienne Viljoen qualified as a veterinarian in 2007 and completed an internship in Equine medicine and surgery at Onderstepoort in 2008. She then completed a Masters Degree in Equine Medicine, enrolled in a 3 year residency in Equine Medicine at the University of Pretoria under the European College of Equine Internal Medicine. She was admitted to the European Board of Medicine in 2015 and now is now a Board Certified Medicine Specialist. During her post grad studies she had several opportunities to visit and do externships in the United States, including a 4 week period at the Hagyards Equine Clinic in Lexington Kentucky, working and learning from some of the best in the industry. She presented and attended several conferences during this time.
Aidan Glynn , DVM
Aidan graduated from Onderstepoort in June 2000 and joined Fourways Equine Clinic in the same year, where he spent three informative years under his mentor, Crocky du Preez. He then ventured abroad in order to expand his experience and knowledge in all aspects of the equine veterinary industry. He practised in the UK for four years, closely involved in the show-jumping, dressage and polo world. In 2008, he moved to Australia and practised on the Gold Coast and Melbourne. Here, Aidan enjoyed working with some of Australia’s leading Thoroughbred race horse trainers, gaining superb experience and knowledge. In 2012, Aidan decided to return to his homeland South Africa and join his old practice once again.
Jeanne De Villiers , DVM
Jeanne was born and grew up in the Jacaranda City of Pretoria. After matriculating, she worked as a Stable Manager at a yard in Pretoria. She then decided to further her education by studying Equine Studies at the Technicon of Pretoria. She completed her practical part in the USA at Adena Springs where she worked with some incredible race horses. She returned to South Africa in 1999 and then studied a BSc in Animal Science and Genetics at the University of Pretoria. Afterwards, she studied Veterinary Science at Onderstepoort where she qualified in 2008. She has worked at Fourways Equine Clinic since January 2009.
Martin Schulman , MMedVet(Gyn) BVSc(Hons) BSc MR
Martin Schulman qualified and obtained registration as a specialist in veterinary reproduction with the award of the MMedVet(Gyn) degree in 1993. He spent several years in general practice in the UK and specialist practice in South Africa, primarily involved in equine reproduction. As a professor at the Veterinary Faculty of Pretoria University he is involved in teaching, research and clinical duties. He is additionally actively involved in a private capacity on most aspects of specialist equine reproduction and stud medicine. This includes evaluation of Thoroughbred and sporting horse mares and stallions for breeding soundness and reproductive and fertility disorders. He is engaged in stallion semen freezing as well as AI and embryo transfer.
Summer Maitland-Stuart , DVM
Summer qualified in 2012 as a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society. She did her honours in equine medicine and surgery in 2013 and completed an externship at the Hong Kong Jockey Club. She has a special interest in internal medicine.
Terry Casey , DVM
Terry qualified in 1987 at Onderstepoort. After completing his 2 years national service, working as a veterinarian, he did 3 month locum before joining Fourways Equine Clinic in January 1990. He has been here ever since, working in both the race horse and competition horse disciplines. He completed his honours in Radiography in 1994.
Willemien Moraal , DVM
Willemien is originally from Potchefstroom and qualified from Onderstepoort in 2001. She joined Fourways Equine Clinic immediately afterwards and has been working here ever since. She works both in the hack, sport horse and racing sectors.
