Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center is a full service equine medical, surgical, and ambulatory hospital offering round-the clock services to Placer county, surrounding areas, Wilton and the Sierra foothills.
Andrea Cannon , DVM, DACVD
Dr. Cannon is a 1993 graduate of UC Davis. She interned at the Animal Emergency Clinic in San Diego, California and completed her residency in Dermatology at UC Davis. Dr. Cannon was a clinical instructor at UC Davis Dermatology from 1996-1997. She has owned Animal Dermatology & Allergy in Roseville, California; Modesto, California; and Boise, Idaho; since 1997.
Bob Morgan , DVM
Dr. Bob Morgan is a 1980 graduate of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. His undergraduate degree came from the University of Illinois. Dr. Morgan joined the Loomis Basin mixed practice in 1980 and then spun off the large animal practice with Dr. Greg Fellers in 1990. Dr. Morgan and his wife, Cindy, reside in Lincoln where she operates an equine breeding and training facility. Bob spends a considerable portion of his late winter and spring practice days involved in equine reproduction which is especially rewarding when the next year’s foals begin to arrive. Throughout the year he focuses on preventative medicine and wellness including vaccination, dentistry, and parasite control as well as a variety of medical and lameness issues.
Catherine Jacobs , DVM
Dr. Catherine Jacobs grew up on the East Coast and received her undergraduate degree from Hamilton College in upstate New York. Moving west, she attended the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2002. Prior to joining LBEMC, Dr. Jacobs practiced equine veterinary medicine in Galt, CA. Catherine is married and has two children under age 5. In her free time (are you kidding?), she enjoys riding and showing her hunter/jumper. Dr. Jacob’s practice interests lie primarily in reproduction, preventative medicine, dentistry, lameness, and pre-purchase examinations. Additionally, she completed an exhaustive program in equine acupuncture and enjoys combining Western and Eastern medicine in a variety of medicine and lameness/soundness cases. Dr. Jacobs has extensive experience breeding mares with cooled and frozen semen, and she has recently introduced deep horn insemination and embryo transfer procedures.
Diana Stolba , DVM
Dr. Diana Stolba is a Sacramento native who received her bachelor’s degree at UC Davis in Animal Science. She went to veterinary school at UC Davis and opted for an emphasis in equine medicine. Diana completed her veterinary internship at LBEMC in 2010 and has continued at the clinic by providing ambulatory coverage to El Dorado Hills and the surrounding areas. Diana became one of the practice owners in 2015. Her practice interests are emergency medicine, anesthesia, equine behavior and client education. She has been riding horses since she was 6-years-old and competed in gymkhana, barrel racing and team penning. Currently, she enjoys trail riding her horses as often as she can. Outside of her horse life she can be found hiking, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding or traveling.
Diane Rhodes , DVM, ACVIM
Dr. Diane Rhodes is a California native who completed both her undergraduate and veterinary education at the University of California, Davis. After completing an internship at LBEMC, she pursued a large animal internal medicine residency at the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, which culminated in her admission to the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Her professional interests include internal and emergency medicine. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, cycling, skiing and horseback riding.
Dustin Major , DVM
Dr. Major is originally from South Carolina, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Intercultural Studies for Business in Spanish from Wofford College, and completed his veterinary school prerequisites at the College of Charleston. He received his DVM from the University of Georgia, where he also completed a rotating internship in large animal emergency services, medicine, and surgery. He then completed a surgical residency at Texas A&M University, where his research focused on laparoscopic surgery. His primary surgical interests include lameness, arthroscopy, upper airway surgery, ophthalmic surgery, and laparoscopy. Outside of the horse world he also enjoys rock climbing, hiking, and camping with his dog, Lucia.
Eduardo De La Cruz , DVM
Dr. Eduardo De La Cruz was born and raised in the island of Puerto Rico. He received his bachelor’s degree, Biological Sciences, in 2003 from the University of Georgia. He then attended the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine where he focused on equine veterinary medicine and surgery. Prior to veterinary school, he worked for over 10 years with the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Office of Public Health Science branches. While on the east coast, Dr. De La Cruz, his wife, Margie, and teenage daughter, Frances, were heavily involved with the American Red Cross Disaster Services where they assisted the victims of fires, floods, tornadoes, and hurricanes. His professional interests include lameness, podiatry, reproduction, and dentistry. Outside of work, he enjoys water skiing, motorcycle riding, and playing hand drums.
Emma Deane , DVM
Dr. Emma Deane grew up in the Bay Area, participating in the United States Pony Club and competing in eventing. She received her undergraduate degree in physiology at the University of California, Los Angeles and then earned her DVM from the University of California, Davis. She has joined the LBEMC team for an internship. Her primary professional interests include equine internal medicine and preventative care. Outside the clinic, Emma enjoys hiking with her dog Zeb and spending time with her horse Lincoln.
Grace Monmaney , DVM
Dr. Grace Monmaney grew up in Foresthill and completed her Bachelors degree in Animal Biology at University of California, Davis. She worked at LBEMC as a veterinary technician prior to attending veterinary school. Grace earned her DVM at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and then completed a one year internship here at LBEMC. She is excited to be staying on as an associate veterinarian. Grace has special interest in equine internal medicine, emergency medicine, as well as preventative care and client education. She also enjoys working with small ruminants and camelids. Outside of the clinic Grace enjoys hiking, camping and spending time with her horse, Dan; and 3 dogs, Bella, June and Ginger.
Jason Errico , DVM, DACVS
Dr. Errico is a California native who received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and attended veterinary school at UC Davis. He completed an equine internship at Littleton Large Animal Clinic in Colorado, a large animal fellowship at Oregon State University, and an Equine Surgery residency at the University of Florida. His primary surgical interests are upper airway, gastrointestinal, orthopedic and treatment of neoplasia. He is also experienced in surgery on New World camelids.
Jennifer Mayer , VMD
Dr. Jennifer Mayer was born and raised in Chicago, and received her Bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. She went on to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Jennifer completed two large animal internships at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Immediately prior to joining LBEMC, Dr. Mayer worked as an associate veterinarian at a mixed animal practice in northern Georgia. Dr. Mayer joined LBEMC in 2011, and teams with Dr. Fielding and Dr. Rhodes as a part of the emergency and critical care service both at the hospital and in the field. She primarily works the overnight shifts. Jennifer also pursued a residency through LBEMC to obtain an advanced degree as a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. Outside of veterinary medicine, Jennifer enjoys running, hiking, skiing, kayaking, and horseback riding, among other outdoor activities. She also loves spending time with her family and at home with her menagerie.
Kaitlyn Coyes , DVM
Dr. Kaitlyn Coyes grew up in Clovis, California. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science at California State University, Fresno. At Fresno State she was an active member of the women’s equestrian team where she competed in reining. After receiving her Bachelor’s degree, she attended Oklahoma State University where she earned her DVM. Her professional interests include: equine internal medicine, reproduction, and preventative care. Beyond the veterinary world she enjoys spending time with friends and family, her two cats, Buster and Panda, and trail riding with her horse Hottie. She hopes to one day get back into the competitive horse show ring.
Kayla Ross , DVM
Dr. Kayla Ross is originally from sunny San Diego, CA. She grew up riding and competing horses in dressage, jumpers, and eventing. She received her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of California, Davis and her DVM from Western University of Health Sciences in southern California. Dr. Ross’ primary areas of interest include equine medicine, ophthalmology, and lameness & sports medicine. When she is not at the clinic, Dr. Ross enjoys traveling, cooking, and exploring Northern CA with her dog, Kaling.
Langdon Fielding , DVM, DACVECC
Dr. Fielding grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and obtained his veterinary degree from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation, he did an internship at Texas A&M University focusing on large animal medicine and surgery. At the end of his internship, he returned to California and began practicing at Loomis Basin Veterinary Center. Langdon works primarily in the hospital, but he occasionally ventures out in an ambulatory vehicle. His primary interest is in emergency medicine, and he works along with Dr. Higgins on the cases that are housed at the clinic. Dr. Fielding completed a strenuous course of additional training and testing and was admitted to the American College of Veterinary Emergency/Critical Care.
Liz Howard , DVM
Dr. Liz Howard grew up in Oregon where she completed her undergraduate degree in Animal Sciences and also graduated from veterinary school at Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR. After finishing her one year internship at LBEMC, Liz has stayed on as an associate veterinarian. Her professional interests include equine medicine, surgery, and reproduction. Outside of work Liz enjoys horseback riding, backpacking, skiing, and spending time with her husband, their three Labrador retrievers, and her 2 horses.
Nick Faber , DVM, DACVO
Dr. Faber graduated from veterinary school at Purdue University in 1992 and then completed a large animal medicine and surgery internship at Texas A&M. He came to UC Davis for a residency in large animal medicine and completed a second residency in ophthalmology in 1999. He is board certified as a Diplomate of ACVO (American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists). Nick grew up in Wisconsin with an interest in showing horses, first Quarter Horses and then Paso Finos while in college. He looks forward to a continued relationship with horses as he develops his practice in veterinary ophthalmology in this part of California.
Sarah Mercer-Bowyer , DVM
Dr. Sarah Mercer-Bowyer grew up riding hunter/jumper in New Jersey and completed her undergraduate degree in Animal Sciences at Penn State. She moved west to attend Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine, where she graduated with highest honors. Her professional interests include internal medicine, preventative care, equine welfare, and dentistry. Outside the clinic, Sarah enjoys yoga, hiking, skiing, and traveling with her husband Greg and very spoiled corgi Winifred. Her first love, Coffee (the horse), now lives a life of leisure at a retirement farm.
