The Oaks Veterinary Clinic


The Oaks Veterinary Clinic Equine and Farm Services is located in Smithfield Virginia on Benns Church Boulevard, directly behind The Oaks Veterinary Clinic. We offer mobile and on-site appointments, along with 24 hour emergency services for equine, bovine, and small ruminants. We currently serve the Tidewater and Hampton Roads areas of Virginia, and northeastern portions of North Carolina. Our focus is to provide our patients with the same high quality veterinary care that we would desire for our own animals
Cathleen Lombardi , IVCA, DVM
Dr. Lombardi received her Bachelor’s Degree in animal science from Cornell University and earned her DVM from Kansas State University. She completed a post DVM internship in large animal surgery at Virginia Tech. Although she enjoys all aspects of general practice, she has special interest in chiropractic, dentistry, lameness, and internal medicine. Dr. Lombardi is originally from Westchester County, New York where she grew up riding hunters and was a typical horse crazy little girl.
F. Garrett Edwards , DVM
Dr. Edwards earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in crop, soil, and environmental sciences from Virginia Polytechnical Institute and State University and achieved his DVM from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. He has a strong interest in equine and cattle reproduction. Dr. Edwards was born, raised and currently resides in Smithfield.
Jessica Mattingly , IVCA, DVM
Dr. Mattingly earned her undergraduate and DVM from Texas A&M University. She is originally from Corpus Christie, Texas. She moved to Virginia with her husband James Peavy and joined our practice in the fall of 2008. Dr. Mattingly has special interests in chiropractic, reproduction, dentistry, and lameness.
Shanna Edwards , DVM
Dr. Shanna obtained her Bachelor of Science degree and DVM from Auburn University in Alabama. She has strong interest in equine reproduction and cattle work. Dr. Shanna was raised in Lenoir City, Tennessee and resides in Smithfield.
Sherri Field Gard , DVM
Dr. Gard joined The Oaks Equine and Farm Service in June 2016. She is a native of Central Illinois yet spent the last 12 years migrating through the East Coast with her USMC husband. Dr. Gard is a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine and has special interests in ophthalmology and podiatry.
