Banaba (Lagerstroemia speciosa) is a large, upright tropical tree that is plant found in many parts of Southeast Asia including the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and southern China. Banaba has been traditionally consumed in various forms by Philippinos for treatment of diabetes and kidney related diseases. Banaba contains the active ingredients corosolic acid and ellagitannins.
