Chasteberry
Vitex Agnus Castus
Chasteberry (Vitex agnus castus) is a small shrubby tree that is native to the Mediterranean region and Asia. The main compounds from the fruit are vitexilactone, vitexlactem A, and vitxlabdine A.
Extracts from the dried ripe fruits from V. agnus are widely used dietary supplements by humans for gynecological disorders including menstrual problems, cyclic mastalgia, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and treatment of hormonally induced acne. It is thought that V. agnus berries may be helpful in male horses by helping to normalize irregular behavior resulting from hormonal disorders.
