Perna Canaliculus
Green-lipped mussel (Perna canaliculus (LPPC)) is a commercially available product made in New Zealand. It contains a unique combination of biologically active proteins, chelated minerals, glycosaminoglycans, amino acids, nucleic acids and essential fatty acids work together to maintain healthy connective tissue.
Green-lipped mussel is often used as a dietary supplement to help manage the clinical signs of osteoarthritis in horses.
Horse-related Research
A study conducted in New Zealand found that horses with osteoarthritis of the fetlock treated with 25 mg/kg bwt LPPC, showed a significant reduction in severity of lameness, improved response to flexion and reduced pain scores when compared with the data from horses given the placebo.
